This print is inspired by walks along the Liesbeek River in Cape Town. During the winter rains, indigenous grasses flourish along the renewed watercourses by means of bold "runners" (shoots) that will mat the water fringes by early spring. The grass leaves cut a striking silhouette amongst the reflections and light refractions in the flowing river. 

The Mokulito print method allows for a depth of texture in the final image. Tone is created both by drawn and cut mark as well as the wood grain of the block itself which creates a beautifully complex surface. Much like the reflective and transparent qualities of water.
